Better, Faster, More Efficient, More Sustainable –
next dimension berlin hyp
Outstanding teamwork, modern technology, flexible structures and an environment that promotes creativity and communication – this describes the world of work Berlin Hyp is heading towards with its future-oriented process. The name says it all: “next dimension berlin hyp”. It is a matter of taking the Bank’s development to a new level and gearing it to future requirements.
Here, agility and flexibility are of particular importance. “From my point of view, this is primarily a question of mindset” says Sascha Klaus, Chair of the Board of Management of Berlin Hyp. “That is why we are paying particular attention in our future-oriented process to how to maintain and develop our corporate culture”.
To this end, the Bank has implemented a so-called “Culture Board”, in which employees from various departments, age groups and hierarchical levels participate. Moreover, two cultural change managers accompany the change in culturally relevant topics – from the general type of collaboration to questions of mobile working and topics such as feedback culture and error culture. Berlin Hyp has also developed new organisational principles for itself. The “Organisation und Rollen der Zukunft” (organisation and roles of the future, ORZ for short) project is now being implemented step by step within the Bank. Among other things, ORZ provides for the dismantling of rigid departmental boundaries (“silos”), intensifies work in agile structures wherever it makes sense, and relies on flatter hierarchies. Scope for decision-making and responsibility will be shifted more to the level of the specific teams, and job descriptions and job profiles will be realigned accordingly in the Bank. “ORZ is a key building block, indeed it is the foundation for the new Berlin Hyp”, emphasises Klaus.
Culture and organisation as a basis, modern IT as the technical backbone (please refer to this page for more information on this topic) – the question remains as to how this new type of cooperation will be expressed in spatial terms.
Our “B-One” project is the answer to this. Within the next few years, Berlin Hyp will build a new corporate headquarters. The headquarters’ workforce, which was spread over two building sections so far, will then work in a new building that will provide space for contemporary forms of cooperation. After its completion (scheduled for 2024), the headquarters will not only offer a modern working environment; B-One will also be considerably more cost-effective, resource-saving and climate-friendly in its operation.
These new working environments contribute to the Bank’s sustainability strategy, which is also being taken to the next level: the Bank has drawn up a far-reaching sustainability agenda, which includes a clear commitment to the Paris Agreement and the Climate Paths of the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as a comprehensive set of measures (please refer to this page for more information).
According to Klaus, “The COVID-19 pandemic will certainly lead to many decisions in companies being reassessed, reviewed and, if necessary, even corrected. However, it was clear to us from the very beginning that we would continue on our chosen path towards the ‘next dimension berlin hyp’, as this is how we become better, faster, more efficient and more sustainable at all levels.” This approach benefits customers, business partners and investors as well as society and the environment. According to Klaus, there is another great advantage for the employees: “Working in this type of environment, which you can help shape yourself, is simply more fun”.
