Networking is the key
to shaping change
We are continuing our future-oriented process in 2021 by relaunching it under the designation >next dimension berlin hyp<. This process includes all activities that are designed to help us achieve our goal of becoming “the most modern real estate financier in Germany”. We don’t just want to react to change – we seek to actively shape it through our large-scale projects (including our digitisation projects), our relocation to a new headquarters with new working environments, and the new formats we use and measures we take to improve our corporate culture.
>next dimension berlin hyp< is like a surfboard that we use to ride the wave of change
Never before in the history of our company have we launched so many change initiatives in order to prepare ourselves for the future. For example, the elimination of management levels in several teams has forced team members to change their coordination and decision-making routines and take on more responsibility. Other teams have been merged in order to generate synergies, while individuals who previously worked on their own have now begun to form a team in a new self-organising unit.
Various tasks and issues are becoming increasingly linked and interdependent, which means we need to expand our networks with one another and gain a better understanding of the work done at other divisions. The changes occurring in our culture are already noticeable in many areas. For example, employees are now launching dialogue formats on their own initiative and the #teamberlinhyp feeling is spreading across all divisions.
Focus on culture topics: Our Culture Board
The creation of our Culture Board at the end of 2019 established a separate platform for corporate culture at Berlin Hyp. New ways of working, a higher degree of digitisation in future, and constantly changing requirements mean that everyone needs to take on more responsibility, think more innovatively and free themselves from long-standing but outdated patterns of action and behaviour. We conducted 19 Culture Talks in 2020 in which employees were able to exchange ideas on topics such as appreciation, the “we feeling” and feedback. We have thus established a new format that enables us to reflect on, and if necessary adjust, our attitudes and behaviour on a regular basis.
SAP HANA project: All information from one data source. Fast and standardised.
We are using this project to define a unique database for all information provided and figures presented in Bank reports. This will increase data integrity and eliminate the need to create reports manually. In 2020, we succeeded in loading data to the SAP FSDP data platform for the first time – and we are now doing this every day. We are thus the first organisation in the world to accomplish this.
Till Kasperbauer, information technology: “Berlin Hyp remains the leader in the German banking market in terms of the scope of its innovation in the area of standardised data structures in SAP HANA.”
The KPO project is a milestone in digital loan processing
The KPO project for lending process optimisation is taking loan processing to a new level. More than 140 lending deals were processed in our first portal solution in 2020. In 2021, we plan to successfully complete the next phase of the project and introduce a deal portal that will give all units involved in the lending process direct access to all relevant operations and data. This will make it possible for us to work on new loan applications simultaneously, and we also won’t have to wait for each other in order to continue our work. All of this will enable us to achieve faster results in loan processing.
New ImmoDigital platform successfully launched
ImmoDigital brings us a major step closer to achieving our goal of fully digitalising our customer communication activities. We developed and launched our new ImmoDigital online platform exclusively for German savings banks in 2020. We executed the first completely digital transaction via the platform at the end of the year – and the positive feedback we received makes us confident that more transactions will follow in 2021. Our goal here is to achieve complete digital processing of all investment formats from the Immo product range developed by Berlin Hyp for German savings banks.
Thomas Esterle, Head of Support for Composite Products: “The platform unburdens conventional communication channels, reduces media discontinuities and facilitates processes by pooling all relevant information centrally in one place.”
A new era in portfolio management: It’s all about the mix
This project is designed to help us manage our portfolio in a more proactive manner and put our equity to use in a more targeted manner. Here, newly developed analysis and simulation models are enabling us to influence the composition of our portfolio in terms of asset classes and markets at an early stage and ensure the portfolio remains efficient.
Achieving greater flexibility with the Digital Workstation project
Every employee already has a notebook and a smartphone today in order to ensure they can work from home or on the move. When we complete the Digital Workstation project in 2021, we will take things a step further by offering our employees even greater flexibility in order to ensure that their needs in the modern working world are met.
